This is the second book I have reviewed by the author, Jason Ventresco. HIs first book Implementing VMware Horizon View 5.2 really helped me understand view and this book, while in a slightly different format is excellent for not only learning about Horizon View 6, but giving you insight into design criteria and various decision points you need to consider. Beyond that, the cookbook format is fantastic for learning in small, consumable chunks and later as a reference guide. Most topics have a "how it works" and a "how to do it section" and even covers ThinApp, monitoring with vRealize Automation, and VMware VSAN considerations and configuration.Highly recommended book for anyone looking to learn about Horizon View 6.

I was looking for a book on VMware Horizon View which can help me in my project on view with clear design decisions on various components explained, solution prerequisites and steps for installation. This book helped me in all my requirements. I was able to map a clear plan of View roll out at my Client's environment by following the design and implementation steps mentioned in this book. Apart from covering the tradition View concepts this books also covers advanced topics like Cloud Pod Architecture, VMware Mirage, View administration Tasks using Powershell, I owe my success of the recent project on VMware Horizon View to this book. I can surely say that this is one of the best technical book I read.

The great thing about this book is that it doesn't just focus on fundamentals. Once fundamentals are covered, it jumps right into Cloud Pod Architecture and automation with PowerCLI. Another great benefit of this book is that is also discusses ThinApp, Horizon Mirage and VSAN use within the Horizon Suite.

Bernard Evslin (1922–1993) was a bestselling and award-winning author known for his works on Greek and other cultural mythologies. The New York Times called him “one of the most widely published authors of classical mythology in the world.” He was born in New Rochelle, New York, and attended Rutgers University. I LOVE Greek Mythology, so I loved this book. I had to read it for summer reading and I really enjoyed it. It is an inspiring myth that teaches you to never give up, no matter how bad the circumstances are. It is a story of adventure, courage, loyalty, and bravery. I would recommend it to anyone who loves a great adventure read and anyone who absolutely loves mythology, like me!!!!It was a GREAT BOOK!!!!! 😃😃😃😃😃😃

This is one of my all-time favorite books for young adoescents.As a read-aloud, when Circe confronts Ulysses, the boys are all but paralyzed in trying to not to look at each other or anywhere else - I think they all think they're the only one "thinking it." Yes, mythology is hot.

I really liked this book. It is short, sweet, and to the point. It tells you all you need to know about Kanban. I also liked that the author included information on using SCRUM with Kanban. This was the first I heard of that.

I was very disappointed when I received this book. I consider this nothing more than a presentation slide-deck printed in book form! You will first notice the book is barely a quarter inch thick; there are no page numbers and the spacing between lines looks to be triple-spaced. At the back of the book, there are hyperlinks referencing the author's other books...Bad investment.....

Too basic. I can find more detailed info online.

The book was not really what I had expected. I had looked for a more personal account of the people who died and those who survived. My husband's grandmother was an Eastern European immigrant to New York shortly after the time period of the Triangle Fire. She came alone to this country, lived with relatives already here, and worked in one of the garment factories. With the great exception that she escaped the Fire, her early life in this country was the life that had been lived by the Triangle victims, and I think I had expected to learn more about this life. Mr. von Drehle makes clear that the book I had expected is just not possible because of the great scarcity of source material. He does what he can in general terms: he tells where the majority of these women came from and the circumstances most of them escaped. He details the incredibly long hours they worked, the incredibly small wages they received, and the fact that many still managed to help support families in this country or The Old Country. He explains that, because of the horrific over-crowding of the tenements in which they lived, their lives away from work were spent on the streets. Here they found community with people of their own background, language, and age; intellectual stimulation in the many near-by free courses offered by NYU and various associations; and exposure to the social and political thought of the day. But these generalities are pretty much as far as he is able to go. The real subject matter of this book is political change; in particular, the liberalization of New York. In this context, the Triangle Fire was no more than a tremendous spur to this change. His enduring characters are less the women of Triangle and more the reporters, business people, public officials, and primarily the politicians who, willingly or not, took part in this change. He chronicles the fall of Tammany Hall and the rise of the Democrats. Once I got past the realization that the book was other than what I had expected, I grew to appreciate it for what it is. It is a well-documented and compelling account of a time of change and the people (certainly including the victims of the Fire) who combined to bring it about.

Ok , if I knew at the beginning that it would go over 1/3 of the book before the fire happened I probably would have passed this right up. That said , I was so drawn into the stories of these people and the complex politics of the time that I almost forgot what was going to happen.I was pleasantly surprised by how well those people were brought to life and thoroughly enjoyed it.The fire was so tragic and so preventable. It was wellWritten aboutOverall this was a great read that bounced a little bit more than I'd prefer on topics , and dragged out a little long on other topics , but I would over all recommend

This is a terrific book about not only the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire, but also the political and labor situation at the time. Frances Perkins - Secretary of Labor under FDR - has as starring role here, as do some of the union leaders and politicians of the time. The influence of Tammany Hall was about to wane and the labor union movement was about to explode - greatly helped along by the horrific fire at the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory. The reader gets to know the history of some of the girls who were trapped in the fire - some escaped and some died in the flames.I found it so frustrating that there weren't regulations in place before the fire to prevent the carnage from ever happening. Even after the fire, things seemed to move slowly. Everyone was horrified and wanted to make sure nothing like that ever happened again. But no one went to jail and change did not come fast. Why does it so often take a tragedy to inspire people to do the right thing? I suspect there will be other readers as disheartened as I was at how this played out for the factory owners. I also suspect that others will see parallels between the events of the early 1900s and today - no one is ever to blame!

I liked reading about life at the turn of the century and the changes hat occurred in the factory workplace. The attempt to document lives of some of the individuals lost in the fire was difficult to follow on the Kindle version. The author too easily moved between time periods and locations to keep track of the detail individual histories, but as an overview it was interesting. The Kindle version had few pictures. An engineer reading the book would have liked to see a sketch of the factory floor, exits, pictures of the fire escape. We visited the site on a recent trip to NYC, and the size and layout of the building and adjacent buildings became much more clear.

In 1911 a shirt-waist factory catches on fire, leading to an unprecedented change in work safety standards.This book is beautifully researched. It provides vivid detail to round out the characters so that the reader truly understands the time period that this story is taking place in. I was particularly interested in the insights provided about the local government, Tammany Hall. I know others didn't understand why there was so much about Tammany Hall in the book, but I found that understanding the local politics really helped me to understand the different forces at play in NYC during the time.

Although I knew the story, this book provided a lot of worthwhile detail about the fire that killed so many people. The building (originally the Asch Building, now the Brown Building) still stands and is now part of the campus of New York University. What I didn't know was that the fire that killed 146 people spread as quickly as it did. In 1911, people jumped from the 10th floor to escape the flames, just as in 2001, people jumped from the top floors of the World Trade Center to escape the flames. This isn't a pleasant story, but it's one that we should know.

Bought this for my 5-year-old little boy (who questions everything) for his birthday. My 10 and 7 year olds now race to try to be the one to read it to him for bedtime stories...And I actually enjoy reading it to him too...because it's interesting for all of us! :)

This asks ridiculous questions a child would already know themselves, like what makes the trees move?... the wind. I was ready to tear my hair out. Do they think our kids are that stupid??? Ok, so they did expound and actually teach some interesting facts, but the questions they ask do not inspire and are actually really insulting. Why not ask a question that captivates ones mind like, "where does wind come from?" or "what makes the wind blow?". Seriously, what make trees move? The book just might have some better questions, but this was the first one I flipped to and I tossed it in a corner, I was so mad. This is why you should only buy used books on Amazon.

For the life of me, please tell me why... If you have toddlers you need this book. It gets the reading like they have never read before. My children love to learn new things but reading is not high on their bucket list. I've tried to motivate them by reading to them and letting them read to me. My children are so shocked that Daddy doesn't know everything. It won't answer all of their questions but it's a very good start.

This is a great book for that kid who loves to stand in the kitchen staring at you mom / dad when you are cooking, with that look on there face , yes you all know that look " mom/dad you listening , I have a question for you WHY !!! this was bought for my daughter who always likes to know why this works this way or why they did that that way or just plain why. so this is a must for that kid of yours they will find out WHY the spider spins a web , why is a tsunamis so dangerous , Why oh Why can't we see the air??, things like "How the snow forms, why does oil float on water, why are there bands around Jupiter and my fave from my daughter , "Why do we bleed mom??" this is great for any curious age my daughter is 10 and full of curiosity my son is 7 and just as curious this book covers so many questions and a must for that curious cat of yours !!

My biggest problems with this book were the facts that my ten year old and seven year old sons keep sneaking the books in their bags for school and my ten year old keeps spouting ad hoc information from the book. I guess I should take the time to read the book myself. I don’t like feeling that my ten year old knows so much more than I do!

This was purchased for my son, age 9, who is very interested in why things work, happen, etc. This book will, hopefully, help answer his questions. Although I would like to think I know EVERYTHING, I dont, so I have actually learned a thing or two as well. I am also picking one up for his school classroom, I think his classmates will love it.Great investment! Pick one up today.... It might save you some headache of googling everything.

We bought this book for the first time as a gift for our 10 year old grandson as a Christmas gift. He and our 7-year old granddaughter (they are cousins) spent most of the evening devouring it and they both loved it! They kept telling us some "facts" from the book! It was a big hit, and I plan to buy him some more books from this series for his May birthday, and this same Book of Why for our granddaughter for her April birthday! I had looked at others online from other companies and this was the brightest, had the best photos and colors, plus interesting information.

Exactly what my son was asking for. He wanted a book that explains random things. Things that HE finds interesting at his age. He reads this in between breaks of his book series. Great pictures, but not too many it overrides the text.
