Bought this for my 5-year-old little boy (who questions everything) for his birthday. My 10 and 7 year olds now race to try to be the one to read it to him for bedtime stories...And I actually enjoy reading it to him too...because it's interesting for all of us! :)
This asks ridiculous questions a child would already know themselves, like what makes the trees move?... the wind. I was ready to tear my hair out. Do they think our kids are that stupid??? Ok, so they did expound and actually teach some interesting facts, but the questions they ask do not inspire and are actually really insulting. Why not ask a question that captivates ones mind like, "where does wind come from?" or "what makes the wind blow?". Seriously, what make trees move? The book just might have some better questions, but this was the first one I flipped to and I tossed it in a corner, I was so mad. This is why you should only buy used books on Amazon.
For the life of me, please tell me why... If you have toddlers you need this book. It gets the reading like they have never read before. My children love to learn new things but reading is not high on their bucket list. I've tried to motivate them by reading to them and letting them read to me. My children are so shocked that Daddy doesn't know everything. It won't answer all of their questions but it's a very good start.
This is a great book for that kid who loves to stand in the kitchen staring at you mom / dad when you are cooking, with that look on there face , yes you all know that look " mom/dad you listening , I have a question for you WHY !!! this was bought for my daughter who always likes to know why this works this way or why they did that that way or just plain why. so this is a must for that kid of yours they will find out WHY the spider spins a web , why is a tsunamis so dangerous , Why oh Why can't we see the air??, things like "How the snow forms, why does oil float on water, why are there bands around Jupiter and my fave from my daughter , "Why do we bleed mom??" this is great for any curious age my daughter is 10 and full of curiosity my son is 7 and just as curious this book covers so many questions and a must for that curious cat of yours !!
My biggest problems with this book were the facts that my ten year old and seven year old sons keep sneaking the books in their bags for school and my ten year old keeps spouting ad hoc information from the book. I guess I should take the time to read the book myself. I don’t like feeling that my ten year old knows so much more than I do!
This was purchased for my son, age 9, who is very interested in why things work, happen, etc. This book will, hopefully, help answer his questions. Although I would like to think I know EVERYTHING, I dont, so I have actually learned a thing or two as well. I am also picking one up for his school classroom, I think his classmates will love it.Great investment! Pick one up today.... It might save you some headache of googling everything.
We bought this book for the first time as a gift for our 10 year old grandson as a Christmas gift. He and our 7-year old granddaughter (they are cousins) spent most of the evening devouring it and they both loved it! They kept telling us some "facts" from the book! It was a big hit, and I plan to buy him some more books from this series for his May birthday, and this same Book of Why for our granddaughter for her April birthday! I had looked at others online from other companies and this was the brightest, had the best photos and colors, plus interesting information.
Exactly what my son was asking for. He wanted a book that explains random things. Things that HE finds interesting at his age. He reads this in between breaks of his book series. Great pictures, but not too many it overrides the text.
