Jason Ventresco Jason Ventresco has been a veteran of the IT field for 15 years and is currently working for EMC2 as a principal solutions engineer. In this role, he designs, builds, and tests the latest end user computing solutions in order to validate their performance and provide guidance to EMC2 customers and partners. He previously worked as a member of the global infrastructure team for FHI 360 and as an IT consultant for WorkSmart and Xerox Global Services. Jason has authored Implementing VMware Horizon View 5.2 and VMware Horizon View 5.3 Design Patterns and Best Practices, both by Packt Publishing. Jason lives in Raleigh, North Carolina, with his wife and daughter. He holds two degrees: a Master of Science in Information Security & Assurance from Norwich University and a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology from the University of Phoenix. In his free time, he likes to travel, ride his WaveRunner, and attend Carolina Hurricanes games.

This is the second book I have reviewed by the author, Jason Ventresco. HIs first book Implementing VMware Horizon View 5.2 really helped me understand view and this book, while in a slightly different format is excellent for not only learning about Horizon View 6, but giving you insight into design criteria and various decision points you need to consider. Beyond that, the cookbook format is fantastic for learning in small, consumable chunks and later as a reference guide. Most topics have a "how it works" and a "how to do it section" and even covers ThinApp, monitoring with vRealize Automation, and VMware VSAN considerations and configuration.Highly recommended book for anyone looking to learn about Horizon View 6.
I was looking for a book on VMware Horizon View which can help me in my project on view with clear design decisions on various components explained, solution prerequisites and steps for installation. This book helped me in all my requirements. I was able to map a clear plan of View roll out at my Client's environment by following the design and implementation steps mentioned in this book. Apart from covering the tradition View concepts this books also covers advanced topics like Cloud Pod Architecture, VMware Mirage, View administration Tasks using Powershell, I owe my success of the recent project on VMware Horizon View to this book. I can surely say that this is one of the best technical book I read.
The great thing about this book is that it doesn't just focus on fundamentals. Once fundamentals are covered, it jumps right into Cloud Pod Architecture and automation with PowerCLI. Another great benefit of this book is that is also discusses ThinApp, Horizon Mirage and VSAN use within the Horizon Suite.
We have a Horizon 5 environment and we were planning on upgrading to Horizon 6 and looking for resources to help us do that hopefully without any painful experiences. This book was able to accomplish that. Also it is very easy to understand and the concepts are very well explained. You can understand the major differences and new features from Horizon 5 to 6.
