Between this book and the 51 uWorld cases I knocked the CCS out of the park. I read through both twice before the test, specifically this book in between days 1 and 2 of Step 3. I would say 3/4's of my cases were directly out of the two books and remaining 1/4 of cases were easy to work up algorithmically. The key is learn/memorize the workup for each broad chief complaint and be able to regurgitate it in the software. There's no penalty for ordering extra labs.Highly recommended. It feels so good to be done with USMLE forever!
While this certainly should not be the only resource used to prepare for the CCS portion of the exam, it may be useful for some.I understand that this book may not be necessary for everyone who is preparing for Step 3 (especially current residents), but it may be useful to those who are looking to review the management protocols of the pathologies most commonly tested on CCS. I have found this book useful in that regard. It is set up very nicely and tells you what the ideal and optional management should be for each case.Best CCS-specific book I have found to date.Update: I passed Step 3 on the first attempt, with a CCS score that was well in the passing range. I am an IMG/FMG with no residency experience and used several sources (including this book) to prepare for the CCS. It was a nice compliment to the practice banks and was good for a quick nightly review of similar cases that I had practiced during the day.
I really liked the brief cases that are each only 2 pages long. They are nice and concise but have everything you need for the diagnosis workup and treatment. My only one complaint is the paper is very thin and you can see the diagnosis through the paper so it was an extra effort not to look at the upper right part of the page to be able to test myself properly.
Along with mtb step three by Conrad Fischer this is an absolute must read for a Yong prepping for ccs and step three and even the cases that overlap should be read from here. You are guaranteed to get cases out of this book
If you were as lost as I was on trying to figure out how to do CCS cases this book is a must. It walks you through everything! I'd be lost without it.
Even though it is from 2013 it has been very helpful in my preparation for STEP3, I would use it along with UWORLD CCS.
