I found this textbook to be useful and informative for the course that it had been assigned for. However as it is about a dynamic and changing topic, it is probably outdated at this point.

Too much info on the author himself, out of date info.

The author of this book continually says, "new, new media" all throughout the book. It is incredibly annoying and seems to have been a ploy to get the word count up. Additionally, the contents of the book are not informative for anyone that has the most rudimentary knowledge of social media. Unless you are buying this for someone who has never gotten online before, don't do it.

I bought this book a few years back for a college class and forgot to review it. To this day it's one of the few books that still sits on my desk. I really enjoy reading it every now and then despite having read it multiple times already.

This book seems perfect for anyone who hasn't used the internet. After reading through this book, I had to look up the author. I feel hesitant bashing it, because he seems like a nice guy. However, "New New Media" feels like a forced book report about today's internet.For example, the blogging section talks about how blogs are important today. If this is a surprise to you, then Levinson's 30 pages of generalized explanation is going to be spectacular.From an "internet guy's" perspective, I just don't get the *point* of this book. Essentially, social media is really important and WAY different than how we used to do things. If you're okay knowing this, don't buy this book. If you don't know what the term "social media" means, read "New New Media" to catch up to 2010.Or you can be forced to buy it for class. In this case, go used.

The essence of the learning techniques isn't very different. This book places the techniques in a specific context, though: school, where the ultimate goal is to get good grades. It presents a strategy for implementing the techniques in a school setting with the joint goals of "maximum grades, optimum learning, minimum time."I've seen some people complain that the techniques are too time-consuming. The author specifically addresses this problem: "This process is going to take us much longer to follow along than the actual thinking-involved took." In other words, once you practice and get used to the techniques, you won't need to do them explicitly...they will become automatic. In fact, I don't think it's possible to learn _at all_ if you aren't asking many of the questions that Robinson discusses. If you think it's too time-consuming, then you're basically admitting that learning is too time-consuming, at which point you should stop reading and reevaluate your priorities.I was a senior in college when I picked up this book. I had survived my former years by mainly using techniques from Cal Newport's material, but reading this book, along with the books I mentioned earlier, provided me with a much clearer understanding of what learning is. Newport's books are definitely useful, being more immediately practical. But this book was more challenging and addressed the core problem of learning more directly.If you want to learn how to learn, especially in a school setting, this book is a great guide. Taking the time to work through the book and struggling to apply the principles to your studies will pay off big time. It will start slow, but persistence will pay off as the material is internalized and becomes second nature. Then you will become an unstoppable learning machine.I can't recommend this book enough for students.

I really like this book because not only did it provide various study tips, it also gave great examples of how to teach yourself. How to teach yourself multiple concepts, ranging from specific subjects to how to take notes from lectures v.s textbooks, etc. I feel my school did not focus on teaching students how to actually ask questions and search for the answers, but more on passing tests and searching for information that the teacher or school wanted to know. With the help of this book, I realized that you can't really understand or attempt to remember the purpose of the information if you don't know why it's relevant or important to know. After struggling my first semester in college simply because I didn't know how to teach myself, I decided I wasn't going to rack up thousands of dollars in student loans just to struggle and get average grades. So I gave this book a try because of the positive reviews and was really happy with my purchase. I use multiple study strategy or tip books as well in conjunction with this book and developed my own working methods. However, the majority of my most effective practices came from this book and I did benefit the most from it. Another thing I enjoyed about this read was it provided suggestions for improving your overall attitude about school and tips to help yourself actually enjoy it and whatever specific subject or task you don't like. If you find specific subjects boring this book can help you find ways to make them fun. If you don't want to put in the effort to be successful, you won't be! The narrator has a practical and frankly, blunt way of stating facts and explains the concepts clearly with a mildly humorous attitude. There are multiple, easy quizzes and exercises that I truly did find helpful, especially if you remain open minded and actually try your best. If you are really struggling with retaining information, reading dry textbooks (or highlighting every other word), having a hard time paying attention in class, or have other issues with school I highly recommend this product.

How to keep up focus when the text is just plain boring and keep your head clear when you are absolutely lost in a hard subject.Not a simple feat and I am baffled as to why one can go though almost 20 years of public school, high school, college and university without ever being thought how to learn efficiently.I often get remarks from my colleagues about how I master my field, and just how smart I must be, but all I can ever tell them is that I am as stupid (or gifted) as the rest of you. The only difference is that when I now open a book, I do it with a purpose, with a plan. This book is very helpful with the New Maya version. Some commands are different but not to many that would keep me from referring to this book for help. The seller also sent the product promptly with no complications on my end. Overall it was a successful transaction.

As you might guess from the title, this book is about designing 3D objects, rooms and areas, often used in the writing of gaming software using the Maya software system.The interesting aspect of the book is the way that it is written. Each chapter starts with a bit of theory which is followed by a tutorial. Thus you get a combined approach that I find works very well. Sometimes you read the theory and are left wondering just what he was talking about, and the tutorial shows you what he means. And conversely sometimes when you get lost in the tutorial having read the theory allows you to get yourself out of trouble.Make no mistake, 3D modelling is not easy. The amount of work involved to get the image you want is significant. A sophisticated software package such as Maya makes it easier, and completely understanding what Maya does is a big help. This book is a good one to help you get there.The book comes with a CD which includes all of the designs that the book describes. This way you can work with what the author has already done and see professional quality work. The CD also includes the Maya 7 Personal Learning Edition.

This book is an introduction to 3D with Maya as the software package. It provides plenty of discussion on various 3D topics including modeling (polygonal, NURB and organic), rendering, lighting, and character rigging. Nonetheless, the majority of the pages are dedicated to hands on tutorials. The included CD has tutorial files, high resolution images and a copy of Alias Maya 7.0 Personal Learning Edition (PLE).A strong emphasis on clean geometry is among the many useful topics and techniques covered by this book. However, learning from this book typically required working through some very difficult tutorials in an already difficult subject area. The steps in the tutorials generally start out quite detailed, but they eventually get a little vaguer. I believe the idea of this approach is to allow you to finish part of the tutorial on you own. While this approach works for some tutorials, most were just too large and complex. For example, the tutorials in the last chapters cover modeling, texturing and animating a complete Unreal 2004 compatible game character. It was a struggle and I could not complete all parts of this continuing project. Still, I learned quite a bit in the process and surprised myself by completing as much as I did. Nevertheless, for a beginner level book, modeling an arm or a head would have accomplished the same with far less aggravation. This is not a short book with over 400 pages. Yet, a longer book was justified in order to appropriately cover projects of this amount, size and difficulty.The general difficulty aside, there were a few other minor issues with this book and the tutorials. For one thing, the colorless photos were pretty much useless. The high resolution images on the CD were a big help though. Sometimes these images were the only way to understand a given step. Also, this book could have used some more editing as it had plenty of mistakes. There were typos such as repeated and missing words. The names for menu and dialog boxes in the text differed a bit from the included version of Maya that I had installed and used. Occasionally, a minor step was missing or an incorrect image was used (Check the CD for the correct images). There were also many other little inconsistencies that primarily related to layer and object naming.If you are able to get through all the chapters in this book, you will learn quite a bit about Maya and 3D modeling in general. But, it would have been nice if some of the harder projects provided more detailed and complete steps. Instead, you are left to complete much on your own, which is an approach that works better in an easier subject area. For 3D modeling, the tutorials and topics are probably a bit too hard for a true beginner and this is supposed to be a beginner level book. This book simply tries to cover too much material without committing to more pages. Ultimately, this is another book that introduces Maya with great frustrations.Rating: 3.5/5

overall i think this book is great. if your into after effects or whatever else and have little knowledge of a true 3-dimensional software package but the ability to understand, buy this book. if you think 3d animation is neat and something you wouldnt mind learning, stop right now. Maya and most other 3d packages are not to be taken lightly. it takes a long time to learn the software and even longer to learn how to apply it. ive bought many other "maya" books by many other authors and the reason i really like this book is if your learning, it explains details about the little things that most other books skip past assuming you already know. dont cut yourself short, get the most out of each tool and start learning at the beginning.

 I love Dogs and coloring so this book was a perfect fit for me. The book is paperback and size is 8 1/2" x 11" so it's the size of a normal sheet of paper. The thickness of the pages is like a normal sheet of computer paper. The pages are not perforated so if you want to remove any, you will just need to tear them out carefully. There are 40 designs to color is this book so this is a bit thicker and larger than some I own. Another thing I really liked with this book that many books don't have is on the first few pages, there is a smaller image of each larger image that is in the book. You could color them too if you want but they are small.In my video, I show you all 40 designs you get in this book so you can make your decision if this will be a book you will like. Most of the time, you don't get to see every design in the book to know if you will like it and then sometimes end up being disappointed so I like to try and do this for people. I personally am very pleased with the book and like it. I think the designs are done well and there is a nice variety and amount to color on the pages. I love the designs on the dogs as well as the patterns around them.If you are going to use gel pens or markers to color, I recommend placing a sheet of poster board/cardstock in between the pages or even just a few extra sheets of paper so they don't run through. If using colored pencils, you won't need to worry about it. Overall, a very nice coloring book that I would recommend and really am enjoying.I received this product at no cost in exchange for an honest and unbiased review. I don't see real well and the print is wonderful. Bold and not much of the tiny spaces that are to be shaded in, but you can't tell where you color.One thing I would like to see , either in the back or the front the color chart. Some times in not sure if certain colors go together. That would be wonderful.

Enjoyed coloring this book. However I wish the breeds of dogs were easier to identify and that the pages could be removed easier. I found a different use for the finished product. I laminate the picture and give them to friends and family to use as a large coaster for putting drinks on. Everyone is enjoying using them.

I love this book and love the fact that pictures are printed on one side of the paper only so you don't have to worry about bleed through. The price is right and the quality of this book is perfect. There are many dogs to color here to use your imagination on.

I received this book yesterday. It has incredible art work with great arrangement of the designs. The book is full size and pages are printed on both sides. The paper is of medium quality and so I plan to copy to card stock before coloring.

I bought these for my son's girlfriend. She recently underwent surgery, so these are a nice therapy tool for her as she recovers. Her mom is a nurse, & it was she who told me that coloring and using her hand is good therapy!

Really like the book but it would of help to see some more pictures inside before
