Good book overall but I noticed the author gave no credence to the fact that some of the natives were in fact black and not just because they were mixed with Africans. The oldest skeleton remains found in the Americas were negro according to the Smithsonian

Excellent book, I would highly recommend. I learned so much from this book. The author does a wonderful job telling the story of the Black Indian. I learned quote a bit from this book. The author talks about the Black Indian experience in New England, to the South, to exploring the Western Frontier.I was also, inspired to learn more about this part of history and ordered more books based on the info from this book.

Really opened my eyes to events of this nation's history that is not being taught in our schools. Slavery was an ugly, cancer and this book really shows how really awful it was in so many ways! Makes me ashamed of the way our forefathers treated the indigenous population of this nation treating them just one step above an animals, hunting them down and herding them into reservations located where white folks would never tolerate.!

It's a fascinating read... as an American Indian Black myself, the book brought me a new perspective (very painful at times...) to not only on how I see myself, but also, how I see my brothers around me. I just wish most people were most interested in reading about their Ancestors as a way to honor them... but, it is what it is, we can only be responsible for ourselves and our contribution to the community around us.

This book is well written and it gave me a glimpse into my father's history as a Black and Choctaw Indian man. He often told us about his heritage but I was too young to understand the significance. He died early in my life and I now long to search out the truth about the Black and American Indian relationships in his time. This book along with the Bower's Museum, Santa Ana and other references filled in some of the missing information intentionally left out of American history books.

Good product / service

I work at a inner city comprehensive high school. One of the male African American students was in trouble. I asked about his back pack. He shared it was stolen and he regretted loosing a book called the "Back Indians". We went on line and he showed me this book. He rated this book tops.He kept it in his backpack and read from it daily. I bought it for him. He was so happy to have another copy.

No doubt about it. This book will not only enlighten but also inspire you to appreciate your heritage.
