The Little Sparrows is the first of the Orphan Train Trilogy by AL and Joanna Lacy. We follow a number of orphans from all sorts of circumstances from NYC to San Francisco with many stops along the way, placing children in Christian homes at each stop. It is a fast read, and my first acquaintance with the orphan trains and the authors. I will be reading more.
A touching novel of the hardships so many children, of all ages, had to endure, through no fault of their own. Thank goodness for the compassionate kindness of the organizations to come up with the idea of the orphan trains. With the vast west, just opening so many doors for these precious children to be placed into, hopefully, loving homes.
This was my favorite of the three book series. It gave a good historical introduction to the Orphan trains. The children's stories were varied and mostly positive and the postscript for each child was nice. Anyone would enjoy this book. Book 2 was too sad and troubling. Although it ended well, it was not comfortable to read. Book 3 left the reader hanging as a 4th book is coming and the story will be completed then.
I really love these stories and found it to be so uplifting although very "too" perfect as far as human behavior. I see it as how it could be as far as true Christian character lived out
I had read stories about the orphan trains that happened in our countries history so when I saw this series I was intrigued. The characters were well developed and the story lines interesting. When I finished this one, I HAD to buy the rest of the series!
I loved this book it was one of my favorites .
This book is amazing because of the history, the characters, the plots, and how they are all interwoven together. I loved this series, and have shared it with others.
Enjoying the book. It was well packed to arrive quickly and in good condition. Looking forward to other books by the Lacys.
